April:

April is always a busy month for the sisters of Theta Nu Xi, as it is packed with Founder’s Day and springtime festivities! The Founder’s Day Banquet hosted by our Alpha Alpha Chapter in Gainesville on April 7 was the first event of April. The sisters did a fantastic job of organizing and executing a wonderful banquet to honor our Founding Monarchs and all of the sisters and fellow students who have supported Theta Nu Xi over the years. The Xi Mu Chapter held its Founder’s Day ritual on April 10 into April 11. Every year, we cherish the time together to honor the sisterhood that we hold so close to our hearts. During the weekend of April 13 through 15, Sorors Christaly and Gina represented Xi Mu at the Southeast Regional Retreat in Atlanta! Wow! What a fantastic weekend of both business and fun, thanks to our regional board and the local sisters of the Xi Epsilon and Zeta chapters! On April 19, Xi Mu hosted a movie outing to see “Mamitas” as part of the Florida Film Festival at the Enzian Theatre in Maitland. Soror Gina left for Detroit the next day to represent Xi Mu at the National Board meeting at our convention site in Detroit, Michigan. Our ever-popular Wine Social brought together sisters and friends on April 27 at The Wine Room in Winter Park. As the month came to a close, several sisters from Xi Mu participated as helpers and walkers in the Winter Springs Relay for Life on April 28, organized by Soror Charee as part of her role in the Metro Orlando Unit of the America Cancer Society! To wrap up the month, Soror Anjeli hosted a Money Management Monday webinar on April 30. Thanks to her accounting knowledge, she was able to share tips for women to remain financially secure throughout life’s phases.

March:

On March 17, Xi Mu sister Charee Williams hosted a housewarming party at her brand-new home in Orlando! Anjeli, Gina, Cristina S. (Lambda alumna), Taina H. (Lambda alumna), and Taty B (Lambda alumna) helped Charee and her family bless the new home. We wish Charee and her daughter the best in their new nest! To celebrate Xi Mu sister Nichole O’Neill’s upcoming birth of her baby boy, Gina and Anjeli hosted a surprise baby shower for Nichole at Acropolis in the Tampa area. Fun was had by all in attendance! We are all so excited to meet the precious bundle of joy! We are looking forward to both Alpha Alpha’s National Founder’s Day Banquet and the Southeast Regional Conference in April.

February:

During the first weekend of February, Xi Mu hosted a private social with the sisters of the Alpha Alpha chapter. It was wonderful to share stories and catch up with our closest undergraduate sisters! Also this month, the website for the Southeast Regional Retreat was announced. We are looking forward to the retreat for both business and pleasure! Thanks in advance to our Atlanta, Georgia sisters for hosting us :)

January 2012:

Happy New Year, friends! Xi Mu wishes you much happiness and success all year long!

December:

This month was a busy one for the ladies in Xi Mu! With holidays, trips, and celebrations, we had to work hard to carve out quality time with ONE another! On December 3, we held a casual chapter meeting to go over our plans for 2012! On December 4th, we participated in our annual event- the Zellwood Corn Maze. Fun was had by all, thanks to good company and lots of fresh squeezed lemonade! We are looking forward to what 2012 will bring us! Happy Holidays to all!

November:

On November 5, sisters and friends gathered in Hollywood, Florida to celebrate the coming birth of the son of Xi Mu chapter founder Soror Chaka (Grover) Brittain and her husband, Rashid. We are all excited for the arrival of baby Logan! This year's Chomp or Chop Game Watching Social took place on November 26 at Soror Arlene Solano and her fiance's home. Friends and family, Seminoles and Gators, gathered to watch the long-lasting rivalry football game. A fun afternoon was had by all, especially the fans of FSU, who watched their team chop their way to victory! We hope to continue this fun tradition in years to come. We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, and wish each of our friends and family ONEderful winter holidays!

September:

On September 7, the Xi Mu sisters attended the University of Central Florida Graduate Fair to network with area professionals and explore higher education options. Most of the chapter's members already hold Master's degrees, but are always searching for ways to acquire more knowledge and uphold Theta Nu Xi's tenet of scholarship! The chapter sisters took a field trip to Rebounderz in Longwood after chapter meeting on September 10! Rebounderz is a gym made entirely of trampolines... what an exhausting (yet fun) workout! On September 24, the sisters gathered for dinner and dancing on International Drive to wish Soror Christaly Albarracin a happy birthday!

Special Announcement: Best of luck to our own Gina Alemán during her run for National Vice President for GAP Affairs!

Special Announcement: Welcome to Xi Mu Taina Hernandez (Lambda alumna)! Welcome BACK HOME to Xi Mu Charee Williams (Lambda alumna and Xi Mu founder)!

August:

Of course, the highlight of August was Convention 2011 in New Orleans! Xi Mu was represented by Anjeli (delegate), Christaly (delegate), Gina (regional officer), Annette (national board officer), Arlene (fundraising), Elena (fundraising), and Nichole (fundraising). We had a fantastic weekend exploring the city and celebrating our sisterhood! Our fundraising efforts were a huge success and we thank all of the sisters that supported us. Xi Mu left NOLA with memories AND the award for Most Outstanding Diversity Hours (GAP)! Check out the summary of this year's awards here. On August 19, sisters gathered for a ONE Love on Winter Park Avenue. We enjoyed dinner, wine, and a fun-filled evening together. During the last weekend of August, the chapter members gathered canned goods for a local shelter that assists homeless individuals during hurricane season. July:

The sisters of Xi Mu have definitely been enjoying the lazy days of summer! We started out the month of July with a birthday/Fourth of July beach party hosted by Soror Gina Alemán. On July 9, we strengthened our bodies as well as out bonds as sisters while rock wall climbing in Longwood, Florida! After our energizing morning, we held our chapter meeting at a local Cuban restaurant. On Saturday of the following weekend, the chapter met at Soror Anjeli Singh’s home to get crafty for Convention 2011! We worked on our photo set props as well as reviewed responsibilities for sisters who would be in attendance at Convention in New Orleans.

Xi Mu is proud to continue their greeting card fundraiser. Soror Gina Alemán and her mother designed a beautiful greeting/note card for sisters to use in and outside the sisterhood! To purchase yours, please contact us at tnx_ximu@yahoo.com (click here for card sample)

June:

This summer, the sisters of Xi Mu have been busy with attending various workshops and conferences related to cultural diversity to expand their knowledge base of diversity issues. These workshops include Diversity Issues for Educators, Empowering Educators in Diverse Classrooms, and Cross Cultural Communications. To serve our community, we searched our closets for clothes to donate to a local Salvation Army om June 25. We are looking forward to an eventful July as we prepare for Convention 2011!

May:

In honor of Buddha’s birthday on May 15, the chapter participated in a Bathing Buddha Festival in South Orlando. Various community officials were present as well as local followers of Buddha. The festival was a chance for the sister of Xi Mu and their friends to obtain knowledge about Buddhism and its history, meeting our tenets of service and multiculturalism. Our sisterhood event for this month was a beach barbeque in St Pete beach on Florida’s beautiful west coast on May 29. The social was organized by Central Florida sister Nicole Henry and attended by a fun-filled group of local sisters, out of town sisters, friends, and significant others. The group ended their beach day with a dinner at the delicious Greek restaurant Acropolis!
