This month was a busy one for the ladies in Xi Mu! With holidays, trips, and celebrations, we had to work hard to carve out quality time with ONE another! On December 3, we held a casual chapter meeting to go over our plans for 2012! On December 4th, we participated in our annual event- the Zellwood Corn Maze. Fun was had by all, thanks to good company and lots of fresh squeezed lemonade! We are looking forward to what 2012 will bring us! Happy Holidays to all!
On November 5, sisters and friends gathered in Hollywood, Florida to celebrate the coming birth of the son of Xi Mu chapter founder Soror Chaka (Grover) Brittain and her husband, Rashid. We are all excited for the arrival of baby Logan! This year's Chomp or Chop Game Watching Social took place on November 26 at Soror Arlene Solano and her fiance's home. Friends and family, Seminoles and Gators, gathered to watch the long-lasting rivalry football game. A fun afternoon was had by all, especially the fans of FSU, who watched their team chop their way to victory! We hope to continue this fun tradition in years to come. We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, and wish each of our friends and family ONEderful winter holidays!
We started out the month of October with a Meetup group outing to the Annual Thai Food Festival in Kissimmee. What a delicious and culturally educational day with the wonderful women from Central Florida Women of Diversity! On the 23rd, Xi Mu held a plannning meeting for its annual Chomp or Chop Game Watching Party. Look out for the Facebook event and flyer for the one event that leaves our chapter divided by rivalry!
On September 7, the Xi Mu sisters attended the University of Central Florida Graduate Fair to network with area professionals and explore higher education options. Most of the chapter's members already hold Master's degrees, but are always searching for ways to acquire more knowledge and uphold Theta Nu Xi's tenet of scholarship! The chapter sisters took a field trip to Rebounderz in Longwood after chapter meeting on September 10! Rebounderz is a gym made entirely of trampolines... what an exhausting (yet fun) workout! On September 24, the sisters gathered for dinner and dancing on International Drive to wish Soror Christaly Albarracin a happy birthday!
Of course, the highlight of August was Convention 2011 in New Orleans! Xi Mu was represented by Anjeli (delegate), Christaly (delegate), Gina (regional officer), Annette (national board officer), Arlene (fundraising), Elena (fundraising), and Nichole (fundraising). We had a fantastic weekend exploring the city and celebrating our sisterhood! Our fundraising efforts were a huge success and we thank all of the sisters that supported us. Xi Mu left NOLA with memories AND the award for Most Outstanding Diversity Hours (GAP)! Check out the summary of this year's awards here. On August 19, sisters gathered for a ONE Love on Winter Park Avenue. We enjoyed dinner, wine, and a fun-filled evening together. During the last weekend of August, the chapter members gathered canned goods for a local shelter that assists homeless individuals during hurricane season. Don't forget to JOIN US on Meetup for our upcoming events!

The sisters of Xi Mu have definitely been enjoying the lazy days of summer! We started out the month of July with a birthday/Fourth of July beach party hosted by Soror Gina Alemán. On July 9, we strengthened our bodies as well as out bonds as sisters while rock wall climbing in Longwood, Florida! After our energizing morning, we held our chapter meeting at a local Cuban restaurant. On Saturday of the following weekend, the chapter met at Soror Anjeli Singh’s home to get crafty for Convention 2011! We worked on our photo set props as well as reviewed responsibilities for sisters who would be in attendance at Convention in New Orleans.
Xi Mu is proud to continue their greeting card fundraiser. Soror Gina Alemán and her mother designed a beautiful greeting/note card for sisters to use in and outside the sisterhood! To purchase yours, please contact us at tnx_ximu@yahoo.com (click here for card sample)
This summer, the sisters of Xi Mu have been busy with attending various workshops and conferences related to cultural diversity to expand their knowledge base of diversity issues. These workshops include Diversity Issues for Educators, Empowering Educators in Diverse Classrooms, and Cross Cultural Communications. To serve our community, we searched our closets for clothes to donate to a local Salvation Army om June 25. We are looking forward to an eventful July as we prepare for Convention 2011!
In honor of Buddha’s birthday on May 15, the chapter participated in a Bathing Buddha Festival in South Orlando. Various community officials were present as well as local followers of Buddha. The festival was a chance for the sister of Xi Mu and their friends to obtain knowledge about Buddhism and its history, meeting our tenets of service and multiculturalism. Our sisterhood event for this month was a beach barbeque in St Pete beach on Florida’s beautiful west coast on May 29. The social was organized by Central Florida sister Nicole Henry and attended by a fun-filled group of local sisters, out of town sisters, friends, and significant others. The group ended their beach day with a dinner at the delicious Greek restaurant Acropolis!
This April, we celebrated National Founder's Day by gathering for dinner and a candle ceremony at Soror Bethel's home. In addition, we wore our pins to work to show our pride in Theta Nu Xi and keep the thought of our Founders close to our hearts. The first annual Southeast Regional Retreat was held April 15-17 in Gainesville, Florida. The sister of the Alpha Alpha Chapter hosted the event comprised of ice breakers, workshops, socials, and a state-of-the-region address. At the end of the month, we hosted a ladies only wine tasting social at The Wine Room on Park Avenue. The social was a success, gathering sisters and friends of the chapter.
During the month of March, the sister of the Xi Mu chapter fulfilled the tenets of SERVICE by gathering formal attire for a local prom clothing drive. The ladies dug into their closets for unwanted formal attire and accessories to be donated, and used by young women who are not able to purchase prom attire. This service tenet will continue into the early part of April. On March 19, sisters from all over Florida attended the wedding of Soror Gina Bethel in Miami Beach! It was an incredible evening complete with a candle ceremony in which all sisters in attendance participated. The chapter is looking forward to a National Founder’s Day celebration on April 11, Southeast Regional Convention, continuing our formal attire collection, as well as kicking off our series of fundraisers for Girls for a Change!
February may be short but the ladies in Xi Mu remain busy! On the first Saturday of the month the Xi Mu sisters helped Soror Gina Bethel celebrate her upcoming wedding at her bridal shower. The event was truly beautiful and provided yet another moment for the chapter to celebrate together. Our community service event for this month was Walk for Homelessness at Lake Dot in Downtown Orlando. The purpose of the cause is to create awareness of homelessness issues and raise money to aid homeless individuals. Though not a current Xi Mu sister, Soror Charee Williams organized the service event. A huge ONE LOVE to Soror Annette Kalloo for attending the National Board meeting in New Orleans on February 19! We are so proud to have a Xi Mu sister serving our organization on the national level! On Saturday February 26, the chapter met for chapter meeting to plan our course of excellence for the next month. We also held an information meeting for local graduate and professional women who are interested in joining Theta Nu Xi. The meeting was a huge success! If you would like more information about Theta Nu Xi- Xi Mu, please contact our Membership Chair, Christaly Albarracin, at tnx_ximu@yahoo.com. Best wishes as we move into the spring months!
Welcome to Central Florida and Xi Mu- Soror Juanita Carbajal (Alpha Alpha alumna)!
