Help Theta Nu Xi in our support of our national philanthropy Girls For A Change!

April 2013:

Spring is in the air! As usual, our favorite day of April is the 11th, on which we celebrate our national founder's day! The chapter sisters gathered at soror Arlene's house for the private ritual then an  international wine and cheese social to commemorate our beloved Theta Nu Xi's Sweet Sixteen! Read more about it in our national blog Flutters and Flights. The following weekend, Xi Mu had the honor of hosting the Southeast Regional Conference in Orlando, Florida. After many months of planning, the regional officers and the sisters of Xi Mu watched our work come to fruition. The conference was a total success! One of the highlights was Xi Mu's recognition for overall excellence int he region! It was a fitting reward for all of the effort that goes in to the business of running a successful chapter. To conclude the month, Xi Mu participated in a community service activity at the local Ronald McDonald House, during which they cooked a delicious brunch for the children and their families that temporarily reside at the home while their children undergo treatments at the nearby hospital. Later that day, former Xi Mu sister Nicole H married her best friend in a beautiful ceremony in Richmond, Virginia! Congratulations Nicole and Steve! Stay tuned for next month's adventures, including Superhero Scramble on May 25, by liking us on Facebook!

March 2013:

Early in March, we joined with the organizations in the National Panhellenic Conference for International Badge Day. Each year on this day, members of sororities promise to wear their organization's badge as a sign of solidarity. On March 4, the sisters of Xi Mu and all of Theta Nu Xi participated and wore our seal pins close to our hearts to show our love for our sisterhood. You can find pictures submitted by our sisters by visiting our national Twitter page! On March 9, the chapter celebrated the birthday of Soror Elena at a resort in Orlando. We enjoyed poolside games and outdoor events with Elena's family and friends from all over Florida! In the very early hours of March 16, the chapter sisters traveled from Orlando to Lakeland for a community service project called Paint Your Heart Out in which we joined a group of volunteers to assist an elderly man by repainting the exterior of his home. It was a rewarding and fun experience for our chapter and we were grateful for the opportunity to join forces with the charity and its sponsors! Later that evening, the chapter held an ice cream social at Downtown Disney for our Meetup group members! We enjoyed sweet treats at the world-renowned Ghirardelli then divided into two teams for a Disney-themed photo scavenger hunt! It was a fun evening, with a touch of friendly competition! We are looking forward to warmer days and many outdoor events this Spring!

February 2013:

We moved in to the second month of 2013 with much momentum and energy! Of course our favorite part of February was the emergence of our newest sisters on February 1 (see Special Announcement below)! On February 10, we celebrated Valentine's Day early with our Love and Sushi event at Soror Gina's house. Several members of our Meetup group came to the event to join us in making sushi and Valentine's cards for local hospital patients. It was an interactive evening that allowed us to talk and catch up while doing something to benefit our community (and our stomachs!). In an effort to stay conncted to the local youth, Xi Mu attended the 8th Annual Step Off!, which invites elementary, middle, and high school groups to compete in a step competition. The Orlando Public Library hosts this event in the soing each year. It was blast to see young students entertain the crowd with their skills! The Xi Mu members enjoyed meeting some of the groups and their coaches after the show.

Special Annoucement:

On February 1, we hosted the emergence for our long-awaited Fall 2012 line- Folie a Deux! The event was held at Pasha Tavern and Lounge in Millenia then we moved over to Club 23 in Downtown Orlando. The occasion was also a celebration for Soror Anjeli, whose birthday was on February 2! Welcome Shirley and Lizzie; happy birthday to Anjeli!

Special Announcement: Welcome to Xi Mu, Michelle (Alpha Alpha alumna)!

January 2013:

We have started off 2013 in a great way! On January 26, Xi Mu had our Spring 2013 kickoff at Annie's Bar and Restaurant in Downtown Orlando. During the evening, we held chapter meeting and spent quality time with the chapter members and greet our new GAP sisters. We are happy to welcome Soror Michelle S. (Alpha Alpha alumna) to Xi Mu!

December:

Our White Hot Winter Social was held on December 21 at Soror Juanita's home. It was a very chilly evening, so the chapter sisters bundled up with blankets and hot chocolate and spent some quality  time chatting around the fire! We also had a gift exchange to show our appreciation for one another. It was a great way to close out 2012 and look forward to 2013! Thank you to all of our sisters, family members, and friends for your support. Happy New Year!

November:

For Xi Mu, "November" means "fun with family and friends"! On November 17, we held our annual Fall Family Festival. We began at Long and Scott Farms where our group enjoyed the corn maze, tree maze, and tasty food provided by local vendors. From there we moved on to Soror Juanita's home, where we played our favorite outdoor games and held a bonfire well into the early morning hours! We were so pleased with the turnout of the event! It was truly a day with sisters, family, and friends. The following weekend was the much-anticipated Chomp or Chop Game Watching Social at Soror Gina's house, which celebrates the rivalry between Florida State University and University of Florida. Most of our alumnae chapter members hail from one of these universities, so the social can get very competitive! We raffled several items and the proceeds went toward our national philanthropy Girls For A Change. There were some friendly wagers made throughout the night, but in the end, the Florida Gator fans celebrated the victory of their team! Check out photos from these events on our Facebook page.

Special Announcement: Our Fall Family Festival will take place at Zellwood Corn Maze at 12:00pm followed by a bonfire at Soror Juanita's house! Email us for more information!

October:

With October comes cooler temperatures (even in Florida!) and family/friends time. Stay tuned for details about our Fall Family Festival on November 17!

September:

This month gave the sisters of Xi Mu the opportunity to get to know more personally women who are interested in joining our organization. We hosted an informal interest meeting at the Microsoft Store followed by a food crawl on Restaurant Row on September 8. The interest meeting was open to the public and allowed sisters to share information about Theta Nu Xi. The food crawl was a fun and delicious way to spend the afternoon! During the following week, the chapter hosted several events related to our tenets, such as a discussion about feminism (scholarship) and a lifestyles workshop (leadership). We are looking forward to Autumn and some of our favorite fall traditions!

Special Announcement:
Welcome back to Xi Mu Juanita and chapter founder Arlene!

August:

National Convention has come again! On August 2-5, sisters Anjeli and Gina represented the Xi Mu Chapter at our national convention at the beautiful and artistic The Henry, Autograph Collection in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. Anjeli and Gina spent 4 lovely days participating in professional workshops and bonding with sisters from all chapters and regions. Highlights for our chapter was the success of Anjeli's financial planning workshop and Gina being re-elected as the Vice President for GAP Affairs. On August 11, sisters and friends of Anjeli celebrated her and her fiance's new home with an East Meets West themed housewarming party. It was a great gathering. Congratulations to Anjeli and Wil! The annual Grid Iron 5K hosted by the University of Central Florida took place on August 25. Several sisters participated by running while representing their respective universities: UCF, UF, and FSU! Xi Mu is happy to announce that we will be kicking off the Fall 2012 semester on September 7 with a nighttime BBQ. We're also excited to hold our first informational of the semester on September 8 at 11:00am at the Microsoft Store in Orlando! Contact our stellar Membership Chair Christaly at tnx_ximu@yahoo.com for more information about membership.

July:

Sunny summer calls for fun in Central Florida! During several of the weekends in July, sisters and their families enjoyed beach days at Cocoa and Daytona beaches. During the weekend of July 6-8, sisters Gina and Christaly attended the emergence activities for the newest members of the Lambda Chapter! The ladies did an awesome job and we are so happy to have them join our sisterhood. On July 21, Xi Mu hosted a fundraiser for Girls for a Change at Uno Chicago Grill on International Drive in Orlando. The fundraiser was followed up by a book chat based on the book I Don't Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson. The conversation turned to the roles of men and women in relationships and the work place. The guys in attendance were quite vocal in their opinions, and it was a great conversation! On a national note, Xi Mu is proud to announce that we met and exceeded our national standards for the 2011-2012 annual term! Way to go, ladies!

June:

This June the butterflies of Xi Mu have been enjoying their summer by traveling! During days in town, the sisters remain busy. The chapter hosted the 2nd Annual International Wine and Cheese night on June 24 with participation from members of their Meetup group (Central Florida Women of Diversity). It was a fabulous evening of wine and fun. On June 30, the chapter gathered to celebrate the birthday of Soror Gina Aleman at her home. We are looking forward to both the Lambda Chapter emergence and a fundraiser for Girls for a Change in July!

May:

This month we used our Meetup group to reach out to more community members and groups. On May 12, we participated in the annual Chillounge Orlando event to benefit Best Buddies of Florida. One of the iconic parks in Downtown Orlando is turned into an ultra-hip nightclub/lounge! It was a great night out for a fantastic cause. On May 19, the cahpter and friends participated in AIDS Walk Orlando, under the direction and organization of Soror Christaly. Her team of co-workers, sisters, and friends raised the most money for the event! Way to go, Christaly! After the walk, our group headed over to a local coffee shop for our book chat about famous African American singer Marian Anderson. It is always a pleasure to participate in intellectual and purposeful conversations regarding relevant issues and public figures. We have a calendar full of events this summer, including a Butterfly Beach Day on June 9 and an International Cheese and Wine night on June 24! Stay tuned!

April:

April is always a busy month for the sisters of Theta Nu Xi, as it is packed with Founder’s Day and springtime festivities! The Founder’s Day Banquet hosted by our Alpha Alpha Chapter in Gainesville on April 7 was the first event of April. The sisters did a fantastic job of organizing and executing a wonderful banquet to honor our Founding Monarchs and all of the sisters and fellow students who have supported Theta Nu Xi over the years. The Xi Mu Chapter held its Founder’s Day ritual on April 10 into April 11. Every year, we cherish the time together to honor the sisterhood that we hold so close to our hearts. During the weekend of April 13 through 15, Sorors Christaly and Gina represented Xi Mu at the Southeast Regional Retreat in Atlanta! Wow! What a fantastic weekend of both business and fun, thanks to our regional board and the local sisters of the Xi Epsilon and Zeta chapters! On April 19, Xi Mu hosted a movie outing to see “Mamitas” as part of the Florida Film Festival at the Enzian Theatre in Maitland. Soror Gina left for Detroit the next day to represent Xi Mu at the National Board meeting at our convention site in Detroit, Michigan. Our ever-popular Wine Social brought together sisters and friends on April 27 at The Wine Room in Winter Park. As the month came to a close, several sisters from Xi Mu participated as helpers and walkers in the Winter Springs Relay for Life on April 28, organized by Soror Charee as part of her role in the Metro Orlando Unit of the America Cancer Society! To wrap up the month, Soror Anjeli hosted a Money Management Monday webinar on April 30. Thanks to her accounting knowledge, she was able to share tips for women to remain financially secure throughout life’s phases.

On March 17, Xi Mu sister Charee Williams hosted a housewarming party at her brand-new home in Orlando! Anjeli, Gina, Cristina S. (Lambda alumna), Taina H. (Lambda alumna), and Taty B (Lambda alumna) helped Charee and her family bless the new home. We wish Charee and her daughter the best in their new nest! To celebrate Xi Mu sister Nichole O’Neill’s upcoming birth of her baby boy, Gina and Anjeli hosted a surprise baby shower for Nichole at Acropolis in the Tampa area. Fun was had by all in attendance! We are all so excited to meet the precious bundle of joy! We are looking forward to both Alpha Alpha’s National Founder’s Day Banquet and the Southeast Regional Conference in April.

February:

During the first weekend of February, Xi Mu hosted a private social with the sisters of the Alpha Alpha chapter. It was wonderful to share stories and catch up with our closest undergraduate sisters! Also this month, the website for the Southeast Regional Retreat was announced. We are looking forward to the retreat for both business and pleasure! Thanks in advance to our Atlanta, Georgia sisters for hosting us :)

January 2012:

Happy New Year, friends! Xi Mu wishes you much happiness and success all year long!
